Carson kids excel at hoop shoot

Seven winners at the Knights of Columbus Council #4781 Free-Throw Championship were from Carson City, and they will compete in the upcoming district event in Gardnerville.

Anderson Jensen was the winner of the 10 year-old boys division, Brayden Marler was the 11-year-old winner, Hunter Ruah won the 12-year-old group and Rodolfo Velasco was the 14-year-old winner.

Hannah Hope Hodorowicz won the 12-year-old girls title, Sophia Ruedy won the 13-year-old crown and Ann Ji Hodorowicz was the 14-year-old champ.

Natalie Anderson, Kylar Leahy, Keelin Pilgrim and Jaycie Roberts led Carson Mddle School to a 25-3 and 25-20 win over Alder Creek in a TahNeva match recently.

Anderson finished with six aces and seven assists, Leahy added six aces and a kill, Pilgrim contributed six aces, five kills, two digs and two assists, and Roberts had five kills, two digs and seven aces.

Azlynn McFadden added two aces and two kills, Maya Vasquez had two kills and Carlie Peckham finished with three digs.

Eagle Valley's seventh-grade volleyball team beat Alder Creek, Pau-Wa Lu and Carson Middle School in recent Tah-Neva action

Against Alder Creek (25-22 and 22-9 win), Carniell Simpson had six service points, four aces and three kills. Ana Gomnez added six service points, including two aces, and Brittany Sorensen had four service points, including two aces, and three kills.

Aganst PWL (25-23, 21-25, 16-14), Lauren Lembug had 10 servce points, three kills, two digs and five aces. Blanca Sosa had three kills and two service points, while Katie Easton added two aces and three servce points.

Sorensen served up 13 points and added a kill in the 25-17, 25-10 win over Carson Middle. Sosa had eight service points, including an ace, while Simpson added five service points, two aces and three kills. Lemburg had three kills, two aces and five service points.

First Tee program

Registration is now open for junior golf and life skills programs with The First Tee of Northern Nevada at Silver Oak Golf Course and Dayton Valley Golf Course.

Class sessions begin April 7 and new classes are offered every month through September. Cost is $80 per session. Each session includes 6-8 lessons. Financial assistance is available, easy to apply for, and completely confidential. Golf equipment is also provided for participants who do not have their own clubs.
