Points race heating up at Top Gun

Top Gun Raceway is nearing the finish line of the 2013 season after completing its seventh race.

With three events remaining, the standings are tight across all divisions after last weekend’s event at the quarter-mile strip. The next race is Aug. 24 with $5 Friday preceding on Aug. 23. Five Dollar Friday returns on Sept. 6 followed by the final two races of the season, Sept. 7-8.

Sparks’ Cortney Morris shot up the standings after winning the Juniors race on Saturday. Morris scored 55 points and trails the leader, Minden’s Austin Dunagan, 152-151 with three races remaining in the season. Dunagan scored a 44 during the race and Trent Dunagan, also from Minden, finished with a 33.

Yerington’s Megan Shaffer is third overall with 140 points but did not race as did Fallon’s Grace Rowan, who has 129. Trent Dunagan is fifth with 108 points.

Fallon’s Marc Klose and Walt Stacey flipped scores over the weekend with Stacey getting the upper hand and winning the Sportsman event with 65 points and is second in the standings. Klose scored a 32 but still leads with 374 after scoring a 65 earlier last month. Fernley’s Lacie Roumpz also scored a 32 and is in third with 319 points. Reno’s Steve Melson scored 43 and is in fourth with 253 points, while Fernley’s Jim Setterberg is fifth at 243. Fallon’s Stan Hooper Sr. has 232 total points.

Sparks’ Kevin Morris continues to lead Pro after posting a winning score of 85 points and has 442 total points. Reno’s Kyle Morris finished with a 63 to stay in second at 376 while Fernley’s Alvin Clarke is third with 332 total after finishing with a 41. Fernley’s Tommy Brown scored a 52 to update his total to 321 for fourth and Fernley’s Eric Setterberg is fifth with 288 points.

Fallon’s Eric Doukas and Jim Grace are in the middle of the pack of the standings with Doukas in sixth (283) and Grace in 10th (233).

Reno’s Brian Costello scored the second-highest mark over the weekend with a 74.

Two Fallon racers are atop the leader board in SuperPro.

Stan Hopper scored the lowest during the race but still leads everyone by 21 points. Hopper finished with a 32 and leads with 340 points, while Frank Barrett won the event with a 65 and is second overall at 319.
