A 5K is nothing new to the Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department.

So, Parks and Recreation added a new twist, a recycled one.

The county is hosting its Recycled Run on July 26 at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. The festivities start at 6 p.m. and the race kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Parks and Recreation Supervisor Danny Gleich said the new event provides numerous options for runners.

What separates this run is the prizes upon crossing the finish line. Participants will choose between medals and T-shirts from past events.

For example, an athlete who missed a Dust Devil Triathlon may choose a T-shirt or medal from a previous event.

He said the county is working on securing a bounce house for children and possibly a movie to watch for those individuals who are not running. In addition, the Clockwork Running Club, a local organization, will grill food as part of a fundraiser, while Gleich said the county or Daily Grind will provide drinks.

The run, he added, will not be officially timed and is more of a fun-run for families.
