Annual Churchill Country Fair kicks off in 1 week

The Churchill Country Fair is just around the corner as the annual event kicks off one week from today at the fairgrounds.

According to organizers, the Churchill Country Fair promotes the community’s rich cultural and agricultural heritage through shows, exhibits and hands-on participation. From educational interactive hands on science demonstrations and farming exhibits, this year’s fair offers unique experiences for everyone. Exhibits range from beautiful flowers and incredible vegetables, homemade jellies and jams and hand-made quilts to antique and contemporary farm equipment. Beautiful photography, crafts and hobbies, home furnishings and fine arts will also be on display.

Last year the event was attended by more than 15,000 people. General admission to the fair and concerts is free. There is a small admission fee for the Ranch Hand Rodeo and Bronc and Bull Riding featuring Camp Pendelton Marines.

Participants from Nevada as well as other states will be at the fairgrounds to exhibit their real-world ranch hand skills at the Ranch Hand Rodeo. The rodeo provides several days of varied exhibitions such as bull riding and team roping. Barrel racing has been added this year.

An authentic civil war re-enactment group will perform events such as realistic battles wearing period costumes and weaponry. They will perform the Gettysburg Address as well as having a Lincoln inaugural ball and a court marshal. The days will also include a dutch oven cook off where participants will use locally grown beef and other ingredients to prepare delicious entrees.

Through the years the 4-H exhibits have expanded as well as participation from the local animal shelters to help solicit adoption for homeless animals.

A carnival has been added for the first time, while The Kiddie Zone provides such fun experiences as a dunk tank and bounce house. Sack races are also being organized. Face painters will roam the grounds for everyone’s enjoyment.

Audiences will listen and dance well into the night to a variety of free music provided by popular local and regional bands. Plenty of delicious food provided by vendors, who return year after year, will be available.
