Lahontan Valley News viewers will see a new redesign to our website today.

In addition to unveiling a new website, our reporters and editors with the LVN and its sister newspaper have returned to school to learn the newest trends in news and website production.

Now, LVN journalists will be able to write, edit and post their stories to the website and design pages by using the same system.

If the occasion necessitates, a reporter can now go to an event outside the office and cover with a MacBook Air computer.

The new website will more local and regional news, state and federalgovernment issues, opinion and entertainment from not only the Fallon area but also from Carson City and Lake Tahoe.

The redesigned site works on your computer, smart phone and tablet. With the change, the LVN page will be assimilated into the Nevada Appeal web page, thus giving our Churchill County readers from central and Northern Nevada more content to read.

The change will create a larger newsroom consisting of reporters from the LVN, the Nevada Appeal, the Record-Courier and the Lake Tahoe papers.

Readers will see more news and features, and a carousel will rotate the top news stories and photos. The enhanced story pages will include additional photos, maps and related stories. In addition, our readers will have an easier time finding weather, crime news and obituaries. Readers should take the next week to look at the new website and see what’s offered and where. Free access will be available for the first week of the new website, and an All Access subscription will be required to view the many stories and photographs.

LVN readers should have easier access to RSS feeds to follow your favorite author and a new Marketplace page that will include help wanted ads, items for sale, real estate listing, auto ads and more from around our area. As with anything new, problems may arise, but I would like to hear from you regarding the website, and I will share those concerns with our design and Internet team. My email is sranson@lahontanvalleynews.com. I look for your constructive comments, good and bad.
