Fallon photographer achieves milestone

Skip Reeves has achieved recognition for his photography, and his image is covering the state.

The March/April Nevada Magazine cover features Reeve’s photograph of the Lincoln Highway, but the memories go further than clicking the camera.

Reeves, who belongs to Nevada Photographers, saw on the group’s Facebook site a request for photographs of the Lincoln Highway, and Reeves knew the two-lane highway well.

“As a kid, I remember going there with my mom and dad, and my great aunt and uncle, Roy and Hazel Williams, used to run the Eastgate Ranch,” he recounted.

Based on years of travelling across the highway, Reeves said he had some ideas for photographs. He drove to Austin, stopping along the way to take photographs of different places and signs. Near the end of his day-long field trip, he took his “selected” photo.

“I submitted it to Nevada Magazine and didn’t hear too much,” Reeves said, adding that he talked to the magazine’s editor at an art show reception.

After talking with Matt Brown, Reeves said he figured the photograph would be included with the story but located in the inside pages.

Several weeks ago while looking at his Facebook page, Reeves saw that his photograph had been selected for the cover.

“I was very, very surprised and excited about it,” Reeves, said. “I couldn’t really believe it”

Reeves received positive feedback from family and friends and also received a copy of the magazine.

Reeves, who shows many of his photographs at silverstatephotography.com, said he enjoys taking photographs of the state’s landmarks and people.

“I am a lifetime resident of Fallon and love our great state,” said Reeves. “I am honored and humbled to have been selected.”
