The search to select a new Churchill County School District superintendent will enter the home stretch next week when three candidates visit Fallon to go through their final interview process.

A town hall meeting Tuesday will give the public a chance to meet Edna LaMarca, Jose Delfin and Sandra Sheldon in the first of two interview nights. The town hall meeting format will give each candidate their own question-and-answer session for a one-hour period starting at 6 p.m. in the district administration office — “The Pit.” Questions from the audience will be mixed with predetermined questions from the district’s citizens committee that will be asked of each candidate.

On Wednesday, candidates will face questions from trustees during two-hour sessions starting at 4 p.m. in “The Pit” that will also be open to the public.

School Board President Ron Evans said this is the first time he knows of where the community has had an opportunity to meet superintendent candidates.

“We’re really hoping people will come out,” Evans said. “This is the community’s time to hear about these candidates and we feel this is important. They (community members) have a vested interest in letting the board know what they think and they can only do that by coming out.”

The candidates will also be given tours of school district facilities earlier in the day Tuesday.

Trustees will return to “The Pit” on Thursday night to further discuss the process during their regularly scheduled meeting; however, Evans indicated he expects the final decision will be made at their next meeting on April 4.

“I think we’re going to wait,” Evans said. “We need to get feedback from people, plus we need time to think about our response.”

The target date for announcing the hiring of the new superintendent is April 15.

The search for a new educational leader began last year when then-Superintendent Carolyn Ross tendered her resignation in late June.
