Carnahan joins Banner Churchill as new chief nursing officer

Robert Carnahan, RN, has joined the administration and staff at Banner Churchill Community Hospital as chief nursing officer.

Carnahan recently assumed his new duties. He took over for Mark Heberlein who successfully served as interim chief nursing officer for the hospital.

Carnahan’s extensive medical background includes more than 20 years of service in the health care industry, including three years in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, where he trained paratroopers in day-to-day operations for field medical treatment. He served as a medical specialist in wartime front lines in the Persian Gulf War in Iraq in the early 1990’s and also as a medical specialist in Panama during Operation Just Cause from 1989 to 1990.

Carnahan comes to Banner Churchill after serving as director of the Progressive Care Unit and Hemodialysis service lines at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, AZ, a position he held since 2011. During his tenure at Banner Del E. Webb, he helped improve quality in his departments, led more than 200 staff members and helped guide the hospital through Joint Commission preparation and successful accreditation.

Carnahan has an associate of science degree in nursing from Indiana University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership degree from Grand Canyon University. He’s associated with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and Arizona Organization of Nursing Executives.
