2 race car drivers die in Reno-Fernley Raceway accident

Two race car drivers died Saturday night at the Reno=Fernley Raceway south of Fernley, reports the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The LCSO said in a statement both drivers died of injuries sustained in a multiple-vehicle accident occurring on a dirt track. They have been identified as Leroy Kay, 67, of Yerington and

David Richardson, 63, of Truckee, Calif. Both drivers, according to the LCSO, were racing in the Dwarf series, race cars that can reach 100 miles per hour.

Kay had previously raced at Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon.

More information will be released as the investigation continues.
