Ricken named Lahontan League MVP

Rileigh Ricken capped a breakout junior season as the Lahontan League’s Most Valuable Player.

The all-league awards were released Wednesday and the Lady Wave softball team was well represented. In all, 10 Fallon players cracked the list, led by Ricken.

Seniors Cady Cordes (first base) and Kaysee Archer (second base) along with freshmen outfielder Paige Thorn and utility player Megan McCormick were named to the first team.

Second-team selections consisted of junior Shelby Lawry (catcher), sophomore Ali Tedford (shortstop) and freshmen outfielders Kalyn Huckaby, Izzy Thomas and junior Gabby Sharpe.

Fallon finished the season 26-13 and lost to Fernley, 14-13, in the Division I-A state title game on May 18.

The Vaqueros led the way with seven first-team selections and Dayton had one. Brooke Mattice (catcher), Taylor Hires-Caulk (third base), Mercedes Rothewell (shortstop), Cheyenne Brewer (designated player), outfielders Serena Olson and Bailey Henderson and pitcher Jordan King.

Dayton pitcher Makayla Shadle represented the Dust Devils.

Fernley’s Kelsie Callahan, Kelsey Walsh and Kailey Daggit earned second-team honors along with Dayton’s Shalia Powell.

On the baseball diamond, nine Fallon players earned all-league honors.

Lahontan League coaches tabbed third baseman Dalton Johnson, first baseman Cody Long, outfielder Dalton Frank and pitchers Nic Stenberg and Hunter Mori to the first team.

The second team consists of catcher Tyler Bagby, shortstop Sage Orozco and outfielders Dylan Tedford and Mo Coverston.

Fernley tallied four players on the first team including Andrew Nelson, Edwin Salse, Kyle Bryce and Kevin Montgomery. Tim Klotz, Gavin Henderson, Erik Wilson and Nick Nelson were named to the second team.
