July 18, 1930 - Nov. 10, 2013

Donald Oliver Moore passed peacefully away on November 10, 2013. Donald was born July 18, 1930, in Astoria , Oregon, to Ray A and Deliah (Hoffnagle) Moore.

His growing up years were spent around Belfair, Washington, nurturing his love of fresh sea food and the water. He completed his degree in civil engineering at the University of Washington, in 1953 and immediately signed on with the US Geological Survey.

During his 32 years he worked in Carson City, Palo Alto, Washington DC, and areas in and around Saudi Arabia. He was a surface water specialist for the Nevada District authoring hydrological studies still in use.

His first overseas tour was spent recording regional water sites, and the second co-authoring a water atlas for the Saudi Arabian government .

Donald was joined in his second tour by his wife Vilate (Beth) Hawkins and her sons Steve and Jeff. These many travels allowed the refinement of his photography hobby visible in his pictures of rare glimpses into Saudi life.

Don found their safaris in Africa to be the most interesting of his travels, he spoke fondly of his 1957 Thunderbird, and he enjoyed sailing, lapidary, and genealogy.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward and his wife, Beth.

He is survived by his brother, Jim Moore of Olympia, Washington; seven nieces and nephews; step-children, Val Barrick and Dee Dee Murray of Arizona, Steve Hawkins, Jeff Hawkins, and Gina Hensler, Carson City, and fifteen step-grand and great-grandchildren.

Donald and his family hold special appreciation for his caregiver Robert Pembroke.
