A Carson City man and an Oregon woman were arrested Thursday morning on felony drug and burglary counts.
According to their arrest reports:
A Carson City Sheriff’s deputy saw a vehicle parked in a field in the 2700 block of North Carson Street and approached it. He saw one man jump out and another man running west toward the street. The deputy activated his lights and siren and drove toward the men, then noticed that the car’s headlights had turned on, and it was moving.
The deputy then pursued the car, chasing it about a quarter-mile until it came to a stop. He ordered the driver, Shawna Freeman, 36, of Forest Grove, Ore., out of the vehicle and arrested her on suspicion of failing to stop on a police signal. The deputy then took inventory of the vehicle and found burglary tools, a plastic bag containing a white crystalized substance and a glass pipe with brown residue on the bulb end. He searched Freeman’s purse and found cotton balls and a metal spoon with brown residue.
Freeman was additionally arrested at 3:45 a.m. on two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit burglary (attempt), unlawful possession of burglary tools and two counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail was set at $13,000.
In the meantime, another deputy found one of the men, Gregory Glade Garcia, 52, of Carson City, hiding behind a stack of wood pallets. He was arrested at 3:45 a.m. on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary (attempt) and obstructing a police officer. Total bail was set at $2,800.
Deputies learned that the other man who had fled was Shawna Freeman’s husband, Jeffrey Freeman, 38, of Carson City. Garcia told them that Jeffrey Freeman had broken the vehicle’s window to steal it. They found him several hours later in a trailer parked near a hotel on North Stewart Street; he was arrested at 9:47 a.m. on suspicion of felony attempted burglary, destruction of private property, obstructing a public officer, jaywalking, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail was set at $5,025.
