Nevada Secretary of Stat Ross Miller told Congress on Wednesday that technology is the key to improving the number of military and overseas voters who are able to vote in future U.S. elections.
He was among the state officials who testified before the House Committee on military and overseas voting.
The committee is attempting to improve the voting process for not only soldiers deployed overseas but citizens who are out of the country.
He said in the 2012 election cycle, more than 15 percent of Nevada’s military overseas paper ballots either weren’t returned or were returned as undeliverable. He said that number could be significantly lower if those voters had better access to resources including technology that could allow them to vote electronically.
Miller toured the Middle East with defense officials and several fellow secretaries of state to gain a first hand knowledge of how voting is handled last year.
