CAC presents poetry reading tonight

The Churchill Arts Council will present a reading by Sacramento-based poet D.R. Wagner tomorrow night at the Art Center. There will be a reception for the author from 5-6 p.m. and the reading will begin at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

D.R. Wagner is a well-known presence on the Sacramento literary scene and the author of more than 20 books and chapbooks of poetry.

He’s read with Jim Morrison of the Doors and with Michael McClure, Lawrence Ferlinghetti (founder of San Francisco’s City Lights Bookstore), Ed Sanders and Ann Waldman, among many others.

He is also a visual artist, producing miniature needle point tapestries that have been exhibited internationally and are represented in numerous publication and museum collections.

He has taught Design at the University of California, Davis since 1988 and also teaches in the honors program there including classes in Poetry By Design. His most recent books include “Where the Stars Are Kept,” a collection of poetry and photographs of his tapestries, published by Rattlesnake Press.

Reno’s Stremmel Gallery will be opening a new show on Dec. 5. The exhibition, entitled “Deck the Walls,” will feature work by six artists including a Reno-based architect and an MFA student from the University of Nevada Reno.

Artists included in the group exhibition are John Belingheri, Catherine Courtenaye, Tom Judd, Rafael Lopez, Maurice Nespor and Melinda Tidwell.

There will be a reception for the artists from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 which is free and open to the public. The show will be in view through Dec 28.
