Arts Council presents poetry reading

The Churchill Arts Council will present a poetry reading with Lake Tahoe-based author, June Sylvester Saraceno, from 5-7 p.m. at the Oats Park Art Center on April 30.

There will be a meet the author reception from 5-6 p.m. and the reading will begin at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

June Sylvester Saraceno has published three collections of poetry “of Dirt and Tar” (Cherry Grove Collections, 2014), “Altars of Ordinary Light,” (Plain View Press, 2007) and “Mean Girl Trips” (Pudding House Press, 2006).

Originally from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Saraceno received a BA in English from East Carolina University and an MFA in creative writing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

She is currently English Program Chair at Sierra Nevada College, Lake Tahoe where she is director of the popular Writers in the Woods literary speaker series and founding editor of the Sierra Nevada Review.

Coming in May, CAC will also host a reception and talk for Sacramento artist, Mary Warner, who will be speaking on her exhibition of large scale paintings and works on paper, “Wood and Meadow,” which is on view in the Classroom Gallery.

The talk and reception is scheduled for May 7 with the talk beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a reception for the artist from 5-7 p.m. This event is also free and open to the public.

Tickets are now on sale for the performance by the musical ensemble, Break of Reality, who were hugely popular when they performed here several years ago.

Break of Reality is a boundary-breaking quartet that blends Classical technique and Rock’n’Roll into something that highlights the best of both worlds. They perform original compositions as well as covering a variety of musics from J.S. Bach to Radiohead and Metallica.

As the divisions between musical genres continue to blur and dissolve, the group is at the forefront of the cross pollination that represents the future of musical expressions in a rapidly changing world.
