Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has announced a $1.414,100 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support research on transportation systems and infrastructure.

The programs will be conducted at both the University of Nevada Reno and the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

The research will promote intermodal transportations for the safe, efficient and economical movement of goods and people in places like Nevada where a sparse network of roads connects smaller cities with the denser networks of large cities.

Reid said the research will lead to the transportation systems of the future including infrastructure that reduces environmental impacts.
