The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the University of Nevada Reno $690,000 for the college’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program.

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the program is intended to help Nevada farmers and ranchers improve their profitability. It is aimed at 425 new and 600 existing farmers and ranchers who are just starting out.

“By supporting the development of Nevada’s ranchers and farmers we are illustrating our commitment to helping Nevada’s agriculture industry thrive,” he said.
