The Carson Tigersharks swim team sent 37 swimmers to the St. Valentine meet at the Carson Valley Swim Center in Minden.

Finishing in the top three of their events were:

Ewan Kalley, 7, was third in the 50 breast, fourth in 25 fly, fifth in 100 IM and 100 free, sixth in 25 back, seventh in 50 free and eighth in 50 back.

Katarina Klatt, 8, was second in the 25 back, third in 50 back, eighth in 25 fly and 100 IM, ninth in 50 free, 11th in 25 free and 100 free, 13th in 25 breast and 15th in 50 breast;

Matteas Klatt, 10, was third in the 200 free, fourth in 50 free and 100 back, fifth in 100 fly and 100 free, and 10th in 100 IM and 100 breast;

Blanca Sosa, 14, was second in the 100 Back, 100 free and 200 free, third in 200 IM and 200 back and fifth in 400 IM;

The following swimmers placed in the top eight of their events: Kaly Branco, Reece Canfield, Mikaela Christenson, Corine Doran, AJ Gutierrez, Sami Kolb, Christy Krahn, Kevin Kruitbosch, Nick Melsheimer, Ashley Meyer, Morgan Nelson, Karina Novoa, Hannah Presley, Kennedy Redican, Brynn Russell, Larkin Russell, Jay Session, Nora Streng, Nicole Van Geel and Jacob Xie.

Registration open for Alta Alpina Challenge

The Alta Alpina Cycling Club, a 501 (c) non-profit corporation, is hosting the annual challenge on Saturday, June 28. This event allows cyclists to explore the eastern Sierras near Lake Tahoe on smooth scenic roads.

The ride spans from Douglas County to Alpine County, Calif. You can ride as little or as far as you want; up to 200 miles. Ride the relatively flat foothills, or attempt “the world’s toughest double century” with more than 20,000 feet of climbing.

The ride is limited to 499 riders. Frequent stops with food and refreshments, roving assistance vehicles, and a post-ride dinner are offered. For details and to register go to altaalpina.org/challenge.


Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club seeks members

Memberships are available for the 2014 season for the Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club. Applications may be obtained at the Carson Valley Golf Course Pro Shop, 1027 Riverview Drive in Gardnerville. The club has scheduled 32 weekly tournaments on Sunday mornings starting March 16. The membership fee is $55 or $45 if you are a season pass holder at the Carson Valley Golf Course.

The membership fee includes NNGA membership for 2014 and a Basque dinner at the County Club Restaurant following the final tournament on Nov. 9. The men’s club has a variety of tournaments which include individual stroke play, Stableford, team best ball, scrambles, Chapman, a club championship, a President’s Cup and many more which make it an enjoyable season.

Baun aces 17th at Eagle Valley West

Vinnie Baun of Carson City made his fifth hole-in-one of the 17th hole at Eagle Valley West on Feb. 11.

Baun used a 5-iron to ace the hole. He thought the shot, witnessed by Joe P. and Gary Rowe, was long.


CHS bowlers knock off Galena

Led by Conlin Herrick, Skylar Belcher and Matt Liddell, the Carson High bowling team knocked of Galena 40-5.

Herrick had a high game of 247 with a 617 series, while Belcher had a high game of 225 with a 608 series. Liddell had a high game of 215 with a 608 series.

Carson’s next match, expected to be its toughest of the season, will be against Reed at Gold Dust West at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
