Teaching & Mentoring Communities (TMC), formerly Texas Migrant Council, is celebrating four decades of providing services to the children of migrant families.

For more than 40 years, TMC has shown a strong commitment to providing quality Head Start educational services to Texas children and through the years has grown, offering migrant seasonal head start services in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Iowa, Nevada and Oklahoma.

TMC works closely with farmers, farm workers and the Department of Health and Human Services to understand the unique strengths and challenges within the migrant farm worker culture. TMC is committed to provide the highest quality of early childhood education available to the children of migrant families. The Head Start eligible low income children and families benefit greatly by the comprehensive services TMC provides allowing children to be in a safe learning environment while laying the foundation for their future.

Since 2006, TMC has been offering services to migrant farm workers in Fallon. The families served by the Center work in farms that grow corn, alfalfa, watermelon, cantaloupe, and garlic just to name a few.

The TMC Fallon Center provides services for migrant and seasonal children ranging in age from six weeks to school age. TMC employs 10 individuals at its Fallon Center supervised by Center Manager Maria Malacara. The center is funded to serve 18 migrant children and eight seasonal children in Fallon and the surrounding cities. The operational months are from June through September. In addition, TMC manages and operates Migrant and Seasonal Head Start centers in Yerington and in Winnemucca,
