Presley performs well at Summer Splash

Hannah Presley, 12, placed second overall in the 800 freestyle at the recent Summer Splash meet at Idelwild Pool in Reno.

Presley placed fourth in the 400 free, eighth in the 50 and 100 backstroke, 12th in the 200 free and 200 individual medley, and 14th in the 50 free.

Trevor Iwamura, 12, was third in the 800 free, sixth in the 400 free, eighth in the 200 I.M. and 11th in the 100 free.

Brett Kolb, 14, was third in the 100 back and 1500 free, fourth in the 400 I.M. and 800 free, fifth in the 200 back, eighth in the 50 free, 200 free and 200 I.M., and ninth in the 100 free.

Nicole Van Geel, 14, was third in the 100 back, fourth in the 800 free, fifth in the 100 free and 200 back, eighth in the 50 free, ninth in the 400 free, 11th in the 200 free, 12th in the 200 I.M. and 13th in the 100 buttlerfly.

Ashley Meyer, Varun Pandit and Jay Session were top-8 finishers in their age group.

Dayton Valley offers plenty of specials

Dayton Valley is offering many golf specials in the weeks to come depending on the day of the week.

The course is offering the following:

Super twilight golf is available every day after 3 p.m. for $20.

On Mondays, casino employees can play for $15 pending proper identification.

On Tuesdays, women can play for $25.

On Wednesdays, anyone can buy the whole course for $3,000.

On Thursdays, seniors 55 and older can play for $25.

On Sundays, a family of four can play for $60 after 10 a.m. One of the players must be 17 or under.

Carson High coach hosts summer running group

Carson High cross country coach Pete Sinnott is hosting a running group Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 p.m.

On Mondays, the group meets at Spooner Summitt Maintenance Station. On Wednesdays, the group meets at Carson Middle School and on Fridays the group meets at Edmonds Sports Complex.

The group is open to anybody who wants to get in shape or get ready for next year’s high school season.

Sparman wins at Carson Valley

Jack Sparman shot a 69 to win Flight A of Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club’s Red, White and Blue Tees format tournament on July 6.

Sparman was followed by Dennis Patterson with a 72, Bob Pemberton with a 73 and Roger Hala with a 74.

In Flight B, Bruce Sanford won with a 73. He was followed by David Morris (75). Chuck Householder and Bud Dick tied for third with a 78.

In Flight C, Neil Bain won via tie breaker over Jack Zippwald. They both shot 80. Third was Gary Carsten with 81 and Paul Finn with an 82.

Closest to the pin on Hole No. 1 was Jim Tavernier. On Hole No. 5 and No. 13 Pemberton was closest. Carsten was closest on Hole No. 17.

Zogorski takes Empire Ranch Senior Men’s club event

Tom Zogorski won Flight A of the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Golf Club stroke play event last Wednesday.

Tom Sawyer was second (66), followed by Bill Hetherton (67), Dahl Rask (67) and Bill Mulligan (67).

In Flight B, Mike Rogers (64) topped Fred Perdomo (66), Dennis Justin (66), John Masiello (66) and Mike Vadnais (67)

In Flight C, Rudy Hammond (68) won via tie breaker against Jack Mederios.

Carl Slate (69) was third, Tom Harlow (70) was fourth and Melvin Ness (71) was fifth.

In Flight D, Pete Youngdahl (58) ran away from Bob Pluth (64), Jim Green (67), Hans Ehrlin (68) and Paul Lockwood (68).

Ties are broken by comparing scores on the most difficult holes.

Closest to the pin went to Perdomo on Blue No. 5; Charles Bell on Blue No. 8; Youngdahl on Red No. 3; and Bob Blom on Red No. 8.

O’Neill, Zerby, Grady first in NNJGA event at Empire

Isaac O’Neill shot a 39 to win the boys 8-10 division of the Northern Nevada Junior Golf Association tournament at Empire Ranch’s Sierra Course. Gabriel Alcanta-Dutra (41), Grayson Cooper (46) and Angelo Bidart (53) were the other top finishers.

In the boys division, Jacob Zerby was first (39) and John Walsh and Patrick Forderhase (41) tied for second. Noah Williams was fourth and Josh Evans fifth (66).

In the girls division, Kallie Grady was first (46), Ciara Hornbarger and Kenzie McCormick tied for second (55).

Ashley Crook was fourth (62) and Hannah Evans was fifth (63).
