July 5, 1915 - June 3, 2014



Hazel was born July 5, 1915 in Oakland, CA. to Lionel and Margaretha Hanell Chapman and passed away on June 3, 2014 in Carson City. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp in 1944, later attending officer candidate school. Capt. Chapman was a finance officer, an auditor and held a top secret clearance during WWII. After honorable discharge, she was a government analyst for the civil service. Memberships included the Retired Officers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of XVII Century and the Carson City Republican Women. Hazel was passionate about recognition of War Dogs and an activist in installation of a cross walk at Frontier Mobile Park. She was honored by Gov. Guinn in 2005. Hazel married Robert Parkins in 1959 in Athens, Greece. He died in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother William Chapman and sister, Barbara Willis Keagy. She is survived by a niece, Susan Howland, of South Pasadena, CA; nephew Chip Chapman of Alameda, CA; nephew Jay Willis of McMinnville, OR and a sister-in-law, Lucy Anne Chapman, Annandale, VA. Memorial services will be held at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 2 o’clock.
