Hicks named GM at Fallon Golf Course

He returns to his old stomping grounds as the man in charge.

Andy Hicks was hired as the new general manager of the Fallon Golf Course last week by Duncan Golf Management.

Hicks, who helped the Fallon boys golf team win the 2006 4A state title, said he is excited to take over the course and reach out to the community.

“It’s a dream come true,” Hicks said. “I started playing … and working at the golf course when I was 11.”

Hicks has spent most of his life playing or working at golf clubs, and now takes over the revamped Fallon course.

Hicks’ road to the general manager and director of golf positions began last year when he started with DGM in Fallon, but then moved to Lakeridge Golf Course in Reno. From there, he worked his way up the ladder and received a call from Tom Duncan, owner of DGM, on Thursday asking if Hicks wanted the job.

“I got some good experience,” Hicks said of his time in Reno. “I have a passion for this golf course. I have deep roots and want to see this course succeed.”

Hick’s duties, meanwhile, consist of overseeing golf operations, the restaurant, beverages and outside services. One of his bigger goals, though, is to maintain and increase community participation at the course.

To do so, Hicks said word-of-mouth and an online presence at www.golfnow.com helps with drawing newcomers to the course. In addition, children’s clinics, women’s groups and other promotions are the core to building a larger member and player base.

“My main goal is to bring the general public out here,” Hicks said. “DGM has put a lot of work, time and effort into the course. We are finally seeing the hard work pay off. We do a lot of ladies nights and promotions.”

One of the best results, though, has been from the efforts of DGM and course Superintendent Devon Byrne, Hicks said.

Churchill County bought the course last year and hired DGM to operate the facility. In doing so, DGM and Byrne resurrected the course with constant maintenance, watering and grooming to provide a better product.

“We don’t have any huge renovations in line, but we want to let people know the course is in good shape,” Hicks said. “We serve our customers as best we can and hope they have a great time when they come out.”
