Bones found near Spooner Lake

Douglas County authorities are investigating bones found near Spooner Lake on Monday.

Investigators from Douglas County searched the mountain near Highway 50 and Kings Canyon starting Monday afternoon.

Douglas County Search and Rescue was called out to help look for evidence in the area starting about 5:30 p.m.

Sgt. Pat Brooks said the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a death investigation with skeletal remains in the area of Kings Canyon east of Spooner Lake.

The remains are being transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

At this time a cause of death is unknown.
