Woman argued with husband before shooting

A Round Hill woman argued with her husband the morning she’s accused of shooting him twice, killing him.

Tatiana Leibel, 50, is being held on $500,000 bail on a charge of open murder in the shooting of her husband, Harold Leibel, 64.

She claimed he committed suicide.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the charges, the Leibels were at their 452 Kent Way home on Feb. 23.

Tatiana told detectives the couple had argued over a trip she wanted to take to Southern California to visit her daughter.

She called dispatchers at 11 a.m. to say her husband had shot himself twice, first in the hand and then somewhere else.

When rescuers arrived they found Harry dead in the living room with a clearly visible gunshot wound to the hand and a second gunshot wound to the right side of his torso.

According to the affidavit, she told detectives that she saw Harry with the rifle and then she heard a shot in the living room. When she came in, she saw him sitting on the couch holding the stock and trigger in his right hand, and was directing the barrel with his left hand toward his right side.

She said she covered her eyes and heard the “boom,” and he was dead.

According to the affidavit, the rifle was cocked when investigators arrived, which would have to have been done after the weapon was fired last, in order to fire it a third time. Investigators believe the shot to the torso was the fatal wound and the shot to the hand was second.

Leibel appeared in Tahoe Township Court on Tuesday where her bail was lowered from $1 million. Justice of the Peace Richard Glasson ordered her to surrender any passports.

Born in Ukraine during the Cold War, Leibel is a self-employed software saleswoman. She requires a Russian interpreter. She is scheduled to next appear in court on April 3.
