Jeff Mohlenkamp, Gov. Brian Sandoval’s director of administration and chief budget officer for the past 2½ years, has resigned to take a position in California.
Mohlenkamp, 50, will take a job in Walnut Creek. His last day with the state of Nevada will be March 28.
The administration had not announced his resignation, so it was unknown whether Sandoval has a replacement in mind.
The administrative services director is paid $124,528 a year and is responsible for overseeing not only the Budget Division but Administrative Services, Hearings, the motor pool, Purchasing, Internal Audits, information technology, Public Works, Risk Management and the state library system.
Mohlenkamp leaves after 27½ years with the state. With purchased retirement credits, he has 30 years credit in state service, the maximum an employee can get toward his pension. He started with the Gaming Control board in 1986, then served in the internal audit division before becoming administrative services officer for the Division of Mental Health and Disabled Services.
He was the chief financial officer for the Department of Corrections when he was tapped to replace Andrew Clinger as head of budget and administration.
He said the new job brings a significant increase in his overall compensation.
Sandoval is expected to name a successor next week.
