Hidden Cave tours resume

The Bureau of Land Management and the Churchill County Museum have resumed the regularly scheduled Hidden Cave tours.

The tours are offered to the public on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month beginning at the Churchill County Museum, 1050 S. Maine St. The tours begin at 9:30 a.m. with a short video about the history of the cave. At approximately 10 a.m. visitors will caravan to the cave site. Reservations are not required and there is no charge for the regularly scheduled tours.

Dress appropriately for the weather, and wear sturdy walking shoes. The trail to the cave is about 1/4 mile uphill and is not handicap accessible. This tour may not be suitable for young children because of its length and the climb up the hill. There are restrooms and picnic tables available at the Grimes Point recreation area, 1.5 miles from the cave area parking lot.

Special tours of 12 or more people may be arranged by contacting the museum at 775-423-3677. There is a charge of $1 per person (or a minimum of $20) for special tours.

Hidden Cave is an archaeological site east of Fallon. Thousands of artifacts have been discovered in the cave over the years and have provided important information about the inhabitants. Prehistoric human use of the cave ranges from about 800 to 5,000 years ago.
