Resident dies in house fire

A 54-year-old Fallon man died as a result of burns caused by a house fire Monday night.

Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter said Ernest Nadeau succumbed to his injuries Tuesday afternoon at Renown Medical Center in Reno. He said at 10:56 p.m. the CCSO responded to a fire call at 855 Gummow Drive where Nadeau and his wife were when the fire broke out.

“The wife and two individuals passing by the house pulled the man from the residence,” Trotter said. “The man was injured by the fire and transported by Care Flight to a hospital in Reno with possible third-degree burns.”

Paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital transported the man by ground ambulance to the local facility.

Trotter said the family dog also died in the fire. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Assistant Fire Chief Ralph Hamman of the Fallon/Churchill Fire Department said two engines, one truck, two tenders and 30 firemen responded to the scene.

“The initial knock down of the fire was pretty quick,” Hamman said. “It took approximately 10-15 minutes but the mop up took awhile, which we finished last night.”

Hamman said the majority of the house was affected by the fire, but he’s unsure if the house is salvageable with the extensive damage.
