A fire engulfed and then destroyed a house Monday afternoon off St. Clair Road.

Fire Chief Ralph Hamman said no one was home at the time the fire broke out. He also said no individuals or animals were hurt because of the fire.

He said Fallon/Churchill Fire Department had two engines, one truck, two tenders and 30 firemen on the scene to put out the flames.

“The initial knockdown of the fire was pretty quick,” Hamman said. “The cleanup took some time, though, so we were there for several hours after the fire started.”

Hamman said the cause of the fire is still unknown and that there is extensive damage to the house, which may be unsalvageable.
