Up against powerhouses Boulder City and Truckee, the Fallon swimmers gave it their best.
In the end, though, the Eagles were too much and cruised to both team state titles at the Division I-A state meet Saturday in Las Vegas.
The Lady Wave tied for seventh with Incline with 12 points, while the boys tied for ninth with Lowry at 14 points. Truckee, meanwhile, took second in both the boys and girls meets.
As for the Wave’s individual swimmers, Kyle Grimes showed his talent with a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.88 seconds). Bowen Becker of Faith Lutheran won with a time of 21.37. Grimes also took eighth in the 100 free (54.63).
Katrina Ward, meanwhile, took fifth in 200 free (2:23.23) in a field dominated by Boulder City. Eagles swimmers placed first through fourth.
Ward, though, also placed eighth in the 100 butterfly (1:14.45), while Fallon freshman Kaelehn Nemeth took eighth in the 100 free (1:05.86).
The relay teams, meanwhile, had a solid showing with a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 400 free events.
The Lady Wave’s team of Ward, Sierra Bivens, Nemeth and Josie Bekiares came in with a time of 4:23.33, while the boys squad of Reece, Nathan Narag, Garrett Snooks and Grimes finished in 4:04.12.
The boys 200 free relay of Haydn Klein, Nick Amerson, William Reece and Grimes placed eighth (1:51.00).
Evett 34th at state golf tourney
Fallon golfer Jeff Evett finished tied for 34th at the Division I-A state tournament in Pahrump on Thursday.
Evett carded a two-round total of 176 as he shot a 90 on Wednesday and an 86 on Thursday.
As for the team results, Faith Lutheran nipped Lowry (781-787) to win the title. Lowry owned a 23-stroke lead after the first day.
Faith Lutheran’s Charlie Magruder earned the top medalist honors as he shot a 143 (77, 66).
