Mystery: A man was found in a weak and exhausted condition and seriously hurt about the head. He was under one of the sheds of Davis’ Mill north of the railroad depot. He said he was from Maryland and came in from Reno when he fell off the cars. He crawled to the mill and laid down under one of the sheds. He was taken to the hospital. Zach, a Paiute who has cavorted over the alkali plains of Nevada for 80 summers, when questioned about the weather of the coming winter said, “This winter may be one way of two. If he takes the warm road, it will be warm as any winter in a long time. If he takes the cold road, it will be the worse winter you ever damn see.”

People harmed by radiation from above-ground nuclear tests or uranium mining could get compensation from the federal government. The bill would expand the list of cancers and other diseases that would make uranium workers eligible for $100,000 government payments.
