Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s musical production Dr. Dolittle, Jr. opens this weekend in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.

The show, which features 5-to-18-year-old actors, follows the story of a wacky but kind doctor who can talk to animals. It takes the audience on a journey from the small English village of Puddleby-in-the-Marsh to the far corners of the world.

Performances are scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Nov. 14, 15 and 16. Show times are 7 p.m. Fridays; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays; and 2 p.m. Sundays.

The Nevada Humane Society will bring its adoption van to the parking lot from 1 to 4 p.m. prior to Saturday and Sunday matinees.

Carol Scott, executive director of Wild Horse Children’s Theater, said, “Since the story of Dr. Dolittle is a musical about caring for and about animals, we felt collaborating with the Nevada Humane Society would be a hands-on fun and educational way to bring this message to the children and families who are attending the performances.”

Families are invited to meet Dr. Dolittle and select animals from the shelter. The event offers opportunities to learn about the prevention of cruelty to animals, wellness programs and animal adoptions.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and students and $8 for ages 4-12 and can be purchased at www.wildhorsetheater.com or by calling 775-887-0438. If tickets are available at the performances, they can be purchased at the door.

Wild Horse Children’s Theater will collect non-perishable food items at all performances for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center’s food bank. Raffle tickets will be given for each food item donated.
