The Nevada Highway Patrol announced on Monday the appointment of NHP Fernley Trooper David Gibson to the office of Public Information of the NHP Northern Command West.

This appointment officially took place after former Public Information Officer Chuck Allen was elected Washoe County sheriff on Nov. 4.

Gibson has served with the NHP for more than seven years starting his career in the Fernley-Fallon district. Former assignments have included defensive tactics instructor, field training officer, taser instructor and MACTAC instructor. He also assists the Department of Public Service training academy by instructing new cadets in several disciplines. He is also a member of the DPS Honor Guard team.

Gibson will oversee the daily operations of all correspondence relayed within the NHP and disseminate information to the public and media. He will also be participating in annual events that involve the NHP. The PIO duties also include participation in area events to promote safety throughout Nevada. He will work with other agencies in and out of state on certain tasks when the NHP’s assistance is warranted.

Gibson is married to the former Stephanie Murdock of Fallon, and they have four children.
