A tractor-trailer rig sideswiped a Churchill County school bus Wednesday afternoon near 4455 Schurz Highway.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reporter no injurIes although paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital responded with a crew. The Churchill County Sheriff’s deputy responded first to the accident.

According to the NHP and eyewitnesses at the scene, the school bus driver had activated warning lights and stop signs. As she was slowing down, she told Churchill County School District personnel the truck did not appear to be slowing down, so she began to pull off onto the shoulder.

The NHP, in its investigation report, said the tractor-trailer clipped the left side of the bus, tearing away the extended stop sign. The driver of the truck pulled off the road once he passed the bus. The NHP said the driver was cited for failure to yield to a school bus.

Children were transported from the damaged bus to another school bus and taken home.
