A 28-year-old woman from Wadsworth was struck and killed by a pickup Wednesday on State Route 427 about one-half mile north of the Love’s gas station in Fernley.

The Nevada Highway Patrol identified the victim as Latasha Lee Woods.

Troopers responded at about 2:15 p.m. to the accident. According to investigation details, a beige 2002 Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound on SR427 when it left the west paved roadway edge and struck a pedestrian alongside the roadway. The Chevrolet was occupied by two females, Katrina E. Paddy, 22, and Liann Christy, 21, both of Wadsworth. The pedestrian died at the scene.

Paddy and Christy fled the scene in the pickup and drove through the desert but were later stopped by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 80 west of Fernley.

Paddy and Christy were arrested on charges related to the accident and booked into the Lyon County jail. The NHP said alcohol is a contributing factor in the cause of this tragic event.

Trooper Karen Garretson of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating this collision.
