Wave racks up league honors

Not surprisingly, Nathan Heck continues his spectacular season.

The Fallon senior running back was named the Northern Division I-A’s Most Valuable Player, while teammates Joe Pyle and Justin Hatfield also took their respective top honors.

Pyle was tabbed the Co-Offensive MVP, along with Lowry’s Beau Billingsley, and Hatfield was selected as the league’s defensive MVP. Greenwave coach Brooke Hill received Coach of the Year honors.

All-state selections, meanwhile, have not been determined and will be released in the coming days or weeks.

Fallon also had four first-team All-North selections in receiver Dylan Jabines, offensive lineman Cody Stadtman, defensive lineman Hunter Holcombe and linebacker Riley Williams.

The Wave also picked up a trio of second team selections in receiver Connor Richardson, center Braxton Hunter and defensive end T.J. Mauga. Linebackers Johnny Mayo and Evan Bitter were named honorable mention.

Heck was second in the Northern DI-A in rushing as he tallied 1,436 yards, 19 touchdowns to lead Fallon to a 10-2 record, the league championship and into the state semifinals.

Hatfield finished second in the league with 14 sacks, which is the second highest in a single season in I-A history. He also tallied 33 career sacks, which ranks first.

Pyle, meanwhile, threw for 1,725 yards, 20 TDs and three interceptions in his first year as a starter. He also ran for 284 yards and six TDs.

Stadtman was a force at guard opening holes for Heck and smashing opponents into the ground. His physical style and quick feet also provided protection for Pyle in the pocket.

Jabines led the Wave in receiving with 41 catches, 555 yards and three TDs. Holcombe, meanwhile, was another force on the defensive line as he tallied 51 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss and three sacks.

Williams also had a monster season as he led the Wave in tackles (114), interceptions (three) and had three tackles for a loss.

Fernley was also well represented as quarterback Kevin Montgomery, running back/linebacker Brian Reyes, offensive/defensive lineman Tyler Roemer and safety/punter Shane Kelso were selected to the first team at their positions.

The foursome led the Vaqueros to a 7-4 record and a berth in the Northern DI-A playoffs.

The Vaqueros also had three second team selections with Montgomery (punter) and linebacker Tanner German and cornerback Kenan McDonald.

Fernley, though, tallied five honorable mention honorees with linebackers Devin Archer and Austin Smith, running back Kyle Throckmorton, offensive lineman C.J. Kilbride and cornerback Carlos McIntyre.
