The Virginia & Truckee Railroad will host three weeks of Christmas trains, 100-year-old vintage decorated rail coaches, Nov. 28 and 29 and Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14.

Passengers savor hot chocolate and warm cider while enjoying festive candy canes and listening to the “Night before Christmas.”

The North Pole Candy Cane Sisters lead holiday sing-a-longs and spend moments with children and adults researching their holiday thoughts.

“Dear Santa” postcards are distributed on the train for families to write their wish lists for Santa’s review. The postcards are mailed daily to the North Pole from the Candy Cane Express mailbox at the F Street Station.

Trains depart at noon and 2 p.m. from the F Street Station in Virginia City. The event also includes a visit to Virginia City’s original V&T Train Depot and Museum.

The event is appropriate for all ages. Passengers are asked to wear warm clothes, bring their cameras and arrive 10 minutes before departure.

The cost is $15 for adults and children 13 and older and $7 for children 2-12. Children younger than 2 ride for free. Overnight packages are available upon request and include train and room accommodations.
