Juveniles charged with attempted car theft, stolen weapons

Four juveniles from Washington State were arrested Sunday morning on numerous charges ranging from possession of stolen firearms to attempted auto theft, said Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter.

According to Trotter, the CCSO received a report of two girls and two boys ranging in ages from 15-17 trying unsuccessfully to steal a vehicle on the Lovelock Highway near Tarzyn Road.

“We found them walking along the highway,” said Trotter, adding that a CCSO deputy and Nevada Highway Patrol trooper stopped the juveniles and then arrested them after conducting a search.

Trotter said the officers found three stolen and fully loaded pistols in their backpacks.

“They were ready to roll,” Trotter said.

Because they were unsuccessful in hot-wiring the vehicle, Trotter said the juveniles then let the air out of all the tires and smashed windows.

Trotter said the CCSO has been in touch with Pearce County, Wash., authorities. In addition to any charges being filed in Washington, Trotter said each juvenile has been charged locally with burglary of a motor vehicle, tampering with a vehicle, possession of firearms under 18, possession of stolen property and being runaways.

No bail has been set, Trotter said. The teens were turned over to the Churchill County Juvenile Probation Office and are scheduled to appear before Judge Mike Lister, who is also the juvenile court master for Churchill County.
