James O. “Jim” Harmon, Capt. USN, retired, passed away on October 16, 2014 at his Fallon, Nevada residence. He was born September 5, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa. He served as a naval aviator in the United States Navy and after retiring he enjoyed farming and ranching. He earned his masters degree in mathematics and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, Elks, and Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife Berte; children Thea Vanderzee of Hillsboro, OR; Bruce Harmon of Susanville, CA; Jean Collins of Heppner, OR; Laura Harmon of Fallon, NV; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorial services with military honors will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 1PM at Smith Family Funeral Home, 505 Rio Vista Dr. Fallon, NV 89406 775-423-2255.
