Jim Nichols has accepted the position of Douglas County Manager. After discussion at the board of County Commissioners meeting on September 4th, county commissioners decided to extend an offer of $172,000 and Mr. Nichols is expected to begin September 29, 2014.
Nichols was former Las Vegas deputy city manager for two years and assistant city manager in Midland, Texas, from 2011 until March 2014. Nichols brings more than 15 years in local government management with expertise in public works, engineering, public safety, community services, parks and recreation and improvements to development review processes and capital improvement programs.
“I received a number of calls from people throughout the community urging me to accept the position,” said Nichols. “I have never experienced such an outpouring of support like this at any point in my career.”
Nichols earned the designation of Credentialed Manager from the International City/County Management Association and is also a licensed Professional Engineer. He earned his Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University and a Masters in Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
“We are very excited to have Mr. Nichols as our new county manager,” said chairman of the Douglas County Commissioners. “With our excellent leadership team and passionate employees, we expect he will be up to speed and hit the ground running. The future has never been brighter for Douglas County.”
