Soaking up Ales for Arts

Ales for Arts V, a fundraiser for Churchill Arts Council’s 2014-2015 programs, will be held in the Lariat Courtyard tomorrow afternoon from 3-7 p.m.

Admission to the event is free and for just $25 you can get unlimited beer tastings. Participating brewers and breweries include Great Basin, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada as well as local beer makers such as Bunejug Brewing (Ed Rybold, Gary Wick and Harve Smith) and Barry Cochran who will offer up an Alpha Crux, IPA and a Vanilla Porter.

Also available for purchase — for the non-beer drinkers out there — will be a craft cocktail and wine along with an array of sausages, salads and snacks.

Road Chronicles film series begins Oct. 3

CAC’s fall classic film series, “Road Chronicles I,” will begin a week from today with a screening of the 1934 film “It Happened One Night,” starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.

Other film in the series are “Sullivan’s Travels,” a 1941 film featuring Veronica Lake and Joel McCrea, which will screen on Oct. 10 and “Easy Rider,” starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson which will be shown on Oct. 24.

Tickets for each film are $7 for CAC members and $10 for non-members and will be available in the Center’s Art Bar on the nights of the screenings beginning at 6 p.m. and the films will start at 7 p.m.

Special passes for all three films — $18 for CAC members, $27 for non-members — will be available for purchase at the Art Center on Oct. 3.

The following afternoon, Oct. 4, artist Stephen Chandler will give a talk on his exhibition, “Dancing on Mystery’s Horizon, Selected Photographs 1997–2014,” large format panoramic photographs of desert landscapes, which is on view in the Classroom Gallery.

The talk will be followed by a reception for the artist from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
