The 11-year-old injured when he fell from a moving truck this past weekend remains in critical condition at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said investigators still are sorting out exactly what happened but apparently that boy and possibly other children jumped on the running board of the vehicle as a man described as his uncle was driving away.
“The child was hanging on the side and an event caused the child to be ejected off the SUV,” said Furlong.
He said the boy suffered a fractured skull when he landed and went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics resuscitated him and, according to Furlong, he’s reportedly doing better.
He said the name of the victim and the driver are still being withheld while investigators sort out the details and no charges have yet been filed in the case. He said when the investigation is complete, the entire case is going to be turned over to the district attorney’s office to determine what charges are appropriate.
“There’s still a motor vehicle accident and the driver of that vehicle left the scene,” he said.
The driver returned to the area on Dori Way at Ester Circle after the victim’s father called him.
