Auditions today for musical set in 1920s

Silver State Charter Schools is holding auditions for The Silver State Stars’ upcoming production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr., ” a musical about New York City in the 1920s, at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Performing Arts Center at Silver State Charter Schools.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.” follows the story of Millie Dillmount, who moves to the big city in search of a new life for herself. She finds a New York full of intrigue and jazz in a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing.

The cast will include flappers, dashing leading men, and a dragon lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate.

Auditions are open to actors, singers and dancers of all ages. Roles that need to be filled include: Millie Dillmount, the plucky ingénue; Jimmy, the charming leading man; Miss Dorothy, the naïve rich girl; Trevor Graydon, the powerful executive; Mrs. Meers, the dragon lady; and a host of other colorful characters.

Performers are asked to prepare a one-minute song and be prepared to learn a dance at the audition.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.” will run at 7 p.m. June 5, 6, 11, 12, and 2 p.m. June 13 in the Performing Arts Center at Silver State Charter Schools, 900 Mallory Way.
