Gardnerville, Nev. — A suspect has been interviewed in the beating of a 21-year-old Carson Valley man at Night in the Country in Yerington, and the case has been forwarded to the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office.

In his weekly report on Facebook, Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil said Sunday a suspect in the July 24 assault was identified thanks to tips from residents.

Lyon County issued a Secret Witness bulletin last week.

“Because of the delay between the crime and case closure, suspect and victim living in different communities, suspect not knowing the victim, and suspect cooperation; an arrest was not the best course of action until the DA can review the entire case,” McNeil said in his post. “Nonetheless, with 15,000 people at the event and the seemingly impossible odds at identifying the suspect, it was citizen leads that ultimately led to his identification.”

The victim was attacked at about 11 p.m. as he was exiting the concert when he came upon a fight involving two women near the exit, when he tried to stop the fight, he was hit from behind by someone.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he was in the intensive care unit until Thursday, when he returned home, where he is recuperating.
