World War II veterans to be honored Aug. 16 at Veterans Cemetery in Fernley

World War II veterans and families are invited to attend a 70th anniversary of the end of World War II event at 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at Veterans Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, Fernley.

Fernley’s mayor, Roy Edgington, will be the keynote speaker. The occasion will be celebrated simultaneously in Southern and Northern Nevada during the annual “Keep the Spirit of ‘45 Alive” campaign. Veterans of World War II are invited to take part and be honored. Their families are also warmly encouraged to attend. Additionally, U.S. veterans of all periods of service and their families are welcome to participate and honor those patriots who came before them. Veterans of World War II or their widows will receive a distinctive pin at the ceremony.
