Authorization for a new open space Carson City parks ranger is among items on Thursday’s Board of Supervisors agenda.

The action would follow a recommendation from the Open Space Advisory Committee and was signaled earlier by the board action approving the work program outline calling for administration of the open space portion of the Quality of Life (Question 18) for management activities, capital improvements, planning and land acquisition for this year. The board approved that program Feb. 19 with inclusion of language noting the need for such a ranger.

Also on the agenda are three items under purchasing and contracts calling for more than $1 million in the aggregate.

A purchase order for $575,000 would authorize buying computer software, hardware and associated equipment involving Insight Public Sector, SHI International Corp. and CVET Technologies.

Another item determines Curtis & Sons, Inc., was low bidder for spending of up to almost $320,000 for a city fiber optics project.

A third item involves purchasing crack sealant from Maxwell Products, Inc., for $125,000.

Thursday’s board meeting is set to begin as usual at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

In addition, the agenda includes three items from Public Works involving water.

One is a resolution adopting a joint funding agreement for cooperative water resource monitoring program with the U.S. Geological Survey. The other two authorizes Mayor Robert Crowell to sign two agreements with the Carson Water Subconservancy District for one and five years regarding a total of 576 acre feet of additional surface water, with the one-year pact only 50 acre feet of the total.

The one-year pact is a lease agreement regarding Lost Lakes water and the five year agreement involves Mud Lake Reservoir water.
