Here are some of the ongoing and coming recreational programs being offered by the Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department:


Kinderjam Classes — Churchill County Parks and Recreation is holding its Kinderjam program for the youngest members of the family. Children ages 1-5 are invited to come and enjoy a high energy movement program that helps stimulate learning for children through music and motion that will stimulate learning and grab their attention from beginning to end. The classes are held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Multi-Purpose Building at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. New students get the first class free and then can buy a pass to come back more often. For more information contact the Parks and Recreation office at 423-7733.

Exercise is Medicine Class — Join Debbie Coblentz, certified dietician, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 a.m.-9:45 a.m. at the gym at Venturacci Park for a chance to walk and exercise indoors. The program is geared towards those needing a chance to walk at their own pace in a safe and controlled manner. Health tips will be dispersed and fun will be had. Yoga — Churchill County Parks and Recreation will continue to offer weekly yoga classes with instructor Nikki Collier. The classes will be held on Monday evenings at 5:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose building at the fairgrounds. Cost is $20 for the four classes or $6 per drop-in class. All levels of yoga participants, from first-timers to advanced, are welcome to come out and take in the benefits that yoga has to offer. Pre-registration is preferred. New Year’s Eve Bonfire — The city of Fallon and the Churchill County Parks and Recreation is ringing in another year of fireworks and fun at the annual bonfire on Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.. Bring out a lawn chair and loved ones to enjoy this fun family event. The fireworks show start the night off with the fairgrounds grandstands providing the best view in town! Individuals may begin dropping off pallets, old wood, and/or old X-Mas trees beginning Dec. 21 at the Churchill County Fairgrounds parking lot. Look for the pile. New Years Day 5K Run/Walk — Churchill County Parks and Recreation invites you to run for run or walk at your own pace on Jan. 1. Get the New Year started off on the right foot by challenging yourself both physically and mentally in a 5k race around the city of Fallon. Registration is now open. Cost is $15 per individual, $50 for a family of four. Prices will go up for day of event registration. Sign up by Dec. 13 to guarantee yourself a T-shirt. Winter Fun Day Camp — Looking for some fun for your child/children for the winter break? Churchill County Parks and Recreation is offering a Winter Day Camp for children 6-12 years old. Camp is limited to first 30 campers; business hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each week includes snacks, games, activities, crafts, swimming, and more. Pre-registration for each week is required. The camp will be open both weeks of winter break on Dec 21-24 and Dec 28-31. We will not be open on Christmas or New Year’s Day. There are additional discounts available for multiple children. 2016 Ski Program — With all the snow falling in the mountains this winter, why not take advantage of it and go skiing or snowboarding. Churchill County Parks and Recreation’s annual ski program is always ready to get the youth of the community a chance to hit the slopes. The trips for this year are on Jan. 9, 23 and Feb. 6, 27. So come on out and enjoy the snow. We have full package trips available as well as ticket only trips for children ages 8 -17. Remember, we are always looking for adult chaperones (21 years of age and older) to volunteer to go on trips with us to help watch children. In addition, here are some activities being offered through the Churchill County Pool’s Community Programs:

Water Workout Launch Party — Churchill County Pool is hosting a Water Workout Launch Party on Jan. 2 at 10:30 a.m. until noon to splash your way to a healthier you for the New Year! Attendance is free and you will receive a free pass to any exercise class of your choice. There will be raffle prizes, snacks, and an opportunity to meet all of the instructors for a taste of their classes. Open to all ages led by Churchill County Pool’s certified exercise instructors for 2016. Call or stop by Churchill County Pool on Sheckler Road to sign-up.

Lifeguard Course — Churchill County Pool is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course from Dec. 21-30. Prepare for exciting, professional employment. Participants must be 15 years old and pass a pre-course skills test the first day of class. Cost for the course is $200.


Swim Lessons — Churchill County Pool is offering American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics (6 months-5 years old), and Learn-to-Swim: Levels 1-4. These evening classes are held once a week for 40 minutes, January-April for $30 per month.

Water In Motion — Water In Motion, the new wave in aqua exercise is offered at Churchill County Pool. Fall/winter classes are offered Monday-Friday at 7 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., and Monday and Wednesday at noon. Passes and fees are interchangeable with Wave Classes. Classes are $5 drop-in or class passes are $35 for 8 classes or $50 for 12 classes.

Wave Classes — Wave classes are offered at Churchill County Pool to help maintain a strong body and reach fitness goals using the benefits of water. These water exercise classes improve your body’s endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination using the therapeutic benefits of water. Classes are $5 drop-in or class passes are $35 for eight classes or $50 for 12 classes.

Rising Wave — 6 a.m., Deep Water

Active Wave — 8:30a.m., Shallow Water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Deep Wave — 8:30 a.m.-Deep Water on Monday and Wednesday, and 11 a.m. on Friday.

Take Away the Aches — Churchill County Indoor Pool is offering a Take Away the Aches class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. These classes increase your flexibility, strength, and coordination with low impact exercise to improve your daily living. This class is best for people just beginning an exercise program or people dealing with limited motion, diabetes, and arthritis. All ability levels and non-swimmers welcome. Classes are $3 drop-in or $22 for eight classes.


Swim Hours

Churchill County Pool’s lap swim hours are Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m. - 8a.m. and 11a.m.-1 p.m., and Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Open Swim is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4 p.m.-5:30p.m. and 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Call 775-423-7091 for information.
