TOCCATA — Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus presenting Handel’s ‘Messiah’ Sunday

Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus announces its annual production of Handel’s “Messiah” with performances in five locations.

Conducted by its composer, “Messiah” was first performed in Dublin, Ireland, on March 23, 1742. It continues to be a masterpiece that has left audiences in awe for 274 years.

The TOCCATA production is a celebration of the holidays and includes not only favorite selections from Messiah Parts One and Three but also seasonal carols the audience are most welcome to join in singing.

The first performance is at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Church, 300 Country Club Drive in Incline Village. Other performances are 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3597 N. Sunridge Drive in Carson City; 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 California Ave. in Reno; and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave in South Lake Tahoe. The final presentation will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 100 Bishop Manogue Drive in Reno.

The Messiah series marks the completion of TOCCATA’s 10th Season. Joining the TOCCATA Orchestra and Chorus for this production are Joy Strotz, Maria Arrigotti, and Anna Helwing, sopranos; Stephanie Dixon, mezzo soprano; Brad Perry, Michael Dewayne Jackson, and Sherman Modeste, tenors; and Chris Langdon and Chris Nelson, baritones. The TOCCATA Chamber Orchestra features Brian Fox and Jeff Lindhorts as concertmasters; David Brock, Katie Lauder, and Nick Haines as continuo; and Josh Dunlap and John Beckman on Baroque trumpets. All performances will be conducted by Maestro James Rawie.

General admission to all concerts is $30 adults and preferred seating is $40/$15 for youth/students. Seniors enjoy a $5 discount. Students 19-23 are $5 with seating 10 minutes prior to the concert. Youth under 19 are free.
