Western Nevada College Fallon is inviting the public to its open house Friday from 3-6 p.m. to share in the improvements made to the campus in recent months and to learn more about some of the college’s programs.
Various summer and fall renovations on campus have provided students with more study space and equipment, as well as lounging areas.
“The open house is really an opportunity for the Fallon Campus to say thank you to this community for the ongoing support and collaboration,” said WNC Fallon Director Sherry Black. “We will have displays and activities related to our Specialty Crop Institute, our Community Education, the CNA program, welding, art, chemistry and more. We invite the community to come share in some holiday goodies, view the renovation and visit the different areas.”
The summer remodeling projects focused on Beck Library, the administrative offices, classrooms and computer lab.
“The campus has received a much-needed facelift in Virgil Getto Hall and in areas of Sage Hall,” Black said. “The reception area is easily accessible and staffed with great customer service work-study students. The computer lab is more user friendly and includes drop-down computer monitors, which affords us with the ability to use the classroom for multi-purposes.”
Black said that the renovations to the library turned out exceptionally well.
“The library is beautiful, and Ron Belbin and Ken Sullivan did a great job with the renovation plan,” Black said. “It is open, bright and inviting. The group collaborative rooms will give students the opportunity to work together on projects, presentations and studying for exams.”
One of the more popular classes on the Fallon campus of late has been the Certified Nursing Assistant course, which will be spotlighted during the open house.
“The CNA class has been highly popular and completely full the past two semesters,” Black said. “We are grateful to the county for working with us to provide the classes at the County Annex Building. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of CNAs will grow by 21 percent over the next decade, which is significantly faster than the overall rate of employment growth.”
