A Friday night mobile home fire displaced a county resident when a fire broke out in his home’s attic.

Fire Chief Ralph Hamman said 20 firefighters and three engines battled the blaze, which began shortly after 11 p.m. He said some smoke damage also occurred to the main part of the house, which is off Workman Road. According to Hamman, fire crews had to rip away sheetrock to get to the fire.

The American Red Cross is also involved in assisting the home’s resident.

Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers are meeting with the resident and will ensure he has a safe place to sleep and has food, clothing, medication and other essentials.

Over the next several days, Red Cross client casework volunteers will stay in contact with the family and provide referrals, as they begin their road to recovery.

Red Cross volunteers respond to a disaster, usually a home fire, nearly every four days in Northern Nevada. Join the American Red Cross and The Professional Firefighters of Nevada and help a local family affected by a home fire by making a donation to the Fire Hurts, Red Cross Helps campaign.
