Toys for Tots workers loaded up the annual donations from the Capitol Police Department’s annual Toys for Tots drive on Friday.

The drive this year collected 12 large bins of gifts to the organization.

Officer Alice Valdez said there were collection boxes at 25 different locations around state government.

“Toys a lot of people might think aren’t one of those necessities people can’t live without but ask a child,” said Joyce Buckingham, director of the Ron Wood Family Resource Center said.

She said the organization hopes to serve 3,000 families this Christmas through the donations collected by the Capitol Police and other drives in the area. She was joined in the ceremony by members of the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at Bridgeport, California south of Carson City, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The police have organized the drive for almost 20 years.
